Youthful Ugandan gospel singer Mark Elvis Mutalya
a.k.a. Mac Elvis is dead.
He is said to have drowned in a swimming pool this
morning in Tanzania where he and a number of other Ugandan artists were
involved in school and church tours. Elvis was aged 26.
A Watoto Child Care beneficiary, Elvis was taken in
after losing his parents at the age of 6. He managed to complete his high
school exams after which he embarked on pursuing his music career. Elvis
attributed the messages in his songs to the hope that he found in God and His
people despite personal suffering.
Elvis was a born again Christian who put in his bid for
royalty as an urban gospel prince with his 2011 release, “Church Boy”, an album
full of mid-tempo jams and occasional club rockers
