When the Little is Much by Pastor Yared Dondo

Pastor Yared Dondo
Lead Pastor,City Harvest Church
Opening Scripture 1 King 17 : 8-16

“And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,

9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.”

When Elijah request a help from a widow she replied that have nothing but a handful meal in a barrel and little oil in a cruse.

May be there is someone here who think he has little but I want to assure you God has different plan, the little you have can be much in the Kingdom of God

If God want to do something is doesn’t matter what you have, whether it is much or little, educated or not, rich or poor, ministry accepted or rejected, he will fulfill his word regardless of who is standing.

In the above story the country was devastated , there are several things that we can learn from this story;

1.      Poverty

The country was in Poverty.

Sometimes we complained that we are poor but we are not fair because our condition is better compared to others.

Some they don’t have place to live, the whole family( father, mother, grandmother, grandfather and kids) are working as servants to rich people

Elijah was poor even the brook that he depended for water dried. He has nothing.

As he was speaking to God, God told him to go to Zeraphat to meet a widow who will feed him.

In Verse  9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

In those days widows where poor than other people but still God commanded him to go widow.

The widow has nothing and she has given up with her life, she was waiting to die

She believes in God but has no hope to live again.

To believe in God is not sufficient we have to put into action what we Believe

2.      Promise

In Verse “13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth”

God has a plan for widow ,and Elijah he told the woman don’t be afraid

This morning if you are passing through difficult situation don’t worry, don’t be afraid, don’t lose hope, God has a good plan for you

God has a plan for you even if all your friends has gone, has a promised to help us in the time of trouble.

Abraham loses hope and find a son for himself but God still has a plan to give him a son through his wife Sarah.

When Jesus was preparing to go to heaven his disciples think it was end of it, but Jesus promised them that he will be with them till the end.

There is always a promise from God for provision. In Vs. 16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.”

Many times when we pray we want God to give us more than he has promised, Let us pray in accordance God`s plan and will.

3.      Provision

Some people are forcing God to give them unrealistic needs.

We should pray as per God will

4.      Obedience

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

When Elijah asked her to give him first, the woman then obeyed and did as Elijah told her.

Due to her obedience there was food always for Elijah and the widow.

Wes should obey and give God first priority

Be obedient to God and you will see miracles in your family

What are you withholding

What is that which seem to be little

5.      Generosity

In verse 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

When she obeyed with her last meal, she find herself eating again and again

God has blessed my family because we have obeyed him

Some people are selfish, they are not ready to extend their hand to servants of God and the needy

This morning God is speaking to someone, take a step of faith and believe God for the miracles

Take the example of a little boy with 5 breads in the bible, the disciples said it was impossible for 5 bread to feed 5000 people.

But Jesus blessed the breads and they were able to feed 5000 people

May be you are holding something because you think it is not enough, it is little, YOU ARE HOLDING YOUR MIRACLE, If God is speaking to you don’t hardened your heart, Take a step today.

Amen!
