The Preacher first reminded the congregation on the
main purpose of Christians as its seen in Matthew 22:36-40
“36 Master,
which [is] the great commandment in the law?37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt
love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all
thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the
second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these
two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
We need to get back the basics on how the old church
behaved.
“They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and
to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
The old church devoted themselves in prayers, we ought
to re-dig our wells of Prayers
True worship cannot be possible without prayers
Mark 11: 17 “And as he taught them, he said, "Is it
not written: 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But
you have made it 'a den of robbers.”
Genesis 26:18 “Isaac reopened the wells that had been
dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up
after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them.”
Christians have lost the thirsty for the things of God
because they are not praying anymore.
Some are so used to salvation that they cannot move on
anymore, It is time to re-dig our wells of Prayer as Isaac did
May God help us to experience fresh anointing of the
Holy Ghost
Some are good in excuses that we are living in
challenging time so we cannot pray, they have forgotten what is written in
Haggai 2: 9 ” The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of
the former house,' says the LORD Almighty. 'And in this place I will grant
peace,' declares the LORD Almighty."
We will experience power of God even more this time.
As we re-dig the wells we are going to see greater
things, more miracles and power of Jesus transforming people.
James 4:8 “Come near to God and he will come near to
you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minde”
As per above scriptures if we seek God we will find
him, we can seek him through Prayers
We need to learn to put the first things first, Prayer
is the first thing in our Christian life
If we want to see God we must start with God
The former church was the church of Prayer; you can go
through Acts 1:14,24, Acts 2:1-4,42
The following are three things that we can learn from
former church;
Four things that will help us to re-dig our wells;
1. The
presence of God
Matthew 28:20 “and teaching them to obey everything I
have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the
age.”
Reality of Presence of God will be seen if we pray.
2. The
Power of God
Mark 16:15-20
“ 15 He said to them, “Go into all the
world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized
will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these
signswill accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out
demons;they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakeswith their
hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they
will place their hands onsick people, and they will get well.”19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was
taken up into heavenand he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples
went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed
his word by the signsthat accompanied it.”
The former church was full of power of God, it is our
responsibility to ensure the same power prevail in our churches today
3. Participation
by all
Christians are responsible to minister in the church,
we need to change our mentality and go back to the basics
Ephesians 4:12 “equip his people for works of service,
so that the body of Christ may be built up”
Pastor`s work is to equip brethren for them to do the
work of God
Read with me Acts 4: 23-24,29-31
“23 On their release,
Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief
priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised
their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made
the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them”.
29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your
servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30Stretch out your hand to heal
and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”31
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were
all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly”Four things that will help us to re-dig our wells;
a. Pray
together as a Church
b. Remind
ourselves of Who God is
c. To ask
God to give us Boldness to speak
d. To ask
God to help us to perform signs and wonders
